VEJLE IDRÆTSHØJSKOLE

Vejle Idrætshøjskole, youth sports school
Vejle

Beautifully situated in picturesque surrounds on the Jutland east coast Vejle Sports College is dedicated to developing talented young sports persons.

The place was established and built in 1943 by Danish Decathlon athete Svend Aage Thomsen that participated in the Berlin Olympics. He headed the college until his death in 1961.

By 1993 the college erects an auditorium shaped as an amphitheatre and covered by a large globe in stainless steel.

The building is an achitectonical statement and offers a contrast to the surrounding brick buildings.

The Globe is constructed with a space frame structure giving freedom of form and making it possible to construct a globe-shaped building with an amfi auditorium inside.

Levi Jensen has been responsible for the steel construction and the space frame structures.
